Manly Wharf Flier

On February 01, 2006, Reed Constructions was named as the successful tenderer to complete the multi-million dollar upgrade of the Manly Wharf commuter terminal.

The works are estimated to cost approximately $15 million and can now begin and will take approximately 15 months to complete.

The NSW Maritime upgrade of Manly commuter wharf has all the necessary approvals and can now get underway. The contract will include maintenance works to be undertaken at the same time as the upgrade.

NSW Maritime upgraded Circular Quay in the lead up to the 2000 Olympic Games and is set to carry out similar improvements at Manly Wharf.

The refurbishments will take into account the heritage character of the wharf.

The key elements of the upgrade include the following:

  • Improved views through the wharf and out to the harbour;

  • Improved commuter convenience and comfort;

  • Reinstated original roof profile on the eastern side of the wharf;

  • Removal of the existing Jetcat platforms and installation a new Jetcat berthing facility;

  • New passenger waiting areas at the southern end of the wharf;

  • Upgraded passenger waiting areas on each side of the wharf;

  • Improved passenger flows by modifying ramps and relocating ticket booths;

  • New disabled access features on the wharf; and

  • Improved passenger safety by introducing a ferry arrestor at the end of the wharf.

NSW Maritime will also be removing and remediating existing lead paint in the older sections of the wharf as a part of this project.

The works are staged to minimize impact upon the half a million people who use the wharf each month and local residents. Noisy works such as piling will be undertaken at restricted times and most bulk deliveries will be done by barge.

NSW Maritime has engaged the Dept of Commerce as it’s Project Manager for the development and both agencies are continuing to liaise with Manly Council, Sydney Ferries, TMG, wharf shopkeepers and local community groups on the project.
