King Street Wharf![]() Location:Darling Harbour, adjacent to Sydney Aquarium on western edge of the Sydney CBD. Owner and Project Manager:NSW Maritime Developer:Multiplex/Australand Land Area:5 hectares Value:$1 billion Project:Work commenced in July 1999 to redevelop the former cargo and passenger wharves 9 and 10 Darling Harbour. The redevelopment, known as the King Street Wharf, has provided new charter vessel facilities for the current growth of tourism on Sydney Harbour as well as a new commercial and residential precinct. The leased wharves are used by charter vessels such as the Sydney 2000, Captain Cook Explorer and the Blue Line vessels, while one wharf is used by Sydney Ferries for its Rydalmere/Parramatta service. The common user berths are used by water taxis and access by other vessels can be arranged through NSW Maritime’s wharf booking system. The common user wharves also have discharge points for vessel sewage to be discharged through a state-of the-art vacuum sewage pump-out system. Remaining work includes completion of roadways, a coach parking facility for 55 coaches, the Macquarie Bank commercial building, a new hotel and further retail development. King Street Wharf is now one of Sydney’s premier waterfront venues attracting increasing number of locals and visitors to its restaurants and waterfront activities.
