Blackwattle Bay Redevelopment

The Master Plan for the Rozelle and Blackwattle Bay Maritime Precincts permits use of the former coal bunker wharf site at the southern end of Blackwattle Bay for mixed marine use and maritime-related retail and/or commercial uses (Site B1), and use of the wharf and jetty immediately to the west of the coal bunker wharf as a commercial boating precinct (Site B2). A Stage 1 Development Application to enable adaptive re-use of the coal bunker site for a three storey building within the footprint of the coal bunker was approved by the Minister for Planning, however a partial collapse of the wharf occurred in February 2007, necessitating the demolition of the entire wharf up to the existing seawall.

New Registrations of Interest will be called in 2008 for the reconstruction and development of Site B1 as well further development of Site B2 and the long-term management of both Sites. The developments will provide public foreshore access in accordance with the Master Plan.

It is planned to connect the eastern side of Site B1 with the Sydney Fish Market by means of a public boardwalk following development of the B1 site.
